* For preparing his first solo exhibition in The Netherlands John Armleder
asked me to drive him around to all kinds of shops and places. In the Makro
- a supermarket in the outskirts of Amsterdam for shopkeepers - he was
attracted by a large bed for pets. Amongst other things one large grey blue
dog bed was taken by him to the gallery. He once wrote: "Arrivé dans la
galerie, je sus immédiatement que j'avais commis l'erreur de ne pas m'en
ętre procuré une grande provision afin de faire un multiple, mais Kees van
Gelder corrigea cette bévue et nous eűmes bientôt trente petits lits (un stock
de taille : oů dormiront les petits chiens de la région ?) que je m'appliquai ŕ
signer et numéroter."

* When John Armleder 'made' this multiple in 1991 he was quite attracted by
the transportability of this very sculptural multiple. He considers this as a
good multiple example of a three dimensional work, which one could easily
carry with him to any place on the world.

*This is the first series of 'Drop cloths' John Armleder made and are larger
than the pizza's of the Secession edition in Vienna. The code 'U 40' refers to
the forty paintings he showed inUtrecht, hence 'Utrecht 40'. While preparing
his solo exhibition in the Centraal Museum Utrecht in 1992 he created a
large 'PourPainting' of 3 x 6 meters. He asked me to cover the floor with a
large sheet of cotton in order to protect the museum floor. After having
finished the painting the poured over piece of fabric, still wet and very
smelly, was cut into 105 pieces. The 106th piece and left over does not look
like all the other square pizza's, it has the shape of a very long stretched out
triangle. The artist folded this one zigzagging into the last pizza box.
Some of the works are signed on the cloth itself as well as on the box. The
edition has not been numbered.

* 'La Ligne d'Arrivée' was a restaurant opposite Galerie Gilbert Brownstone &
Cie in Paris. The voucher - here unused - could be validated by ordering a
dinner at the restaurant. Only 30 have been signed by the artist and very
few have been issued, because soon the restaurant closed its doors.

which she made 2 editions, of which this is the first she ever made and it is
now a very rare piece to find. The artist reproduced twice 24 covers of
Vogue Italia (1991) and Vogue Paris (1992). In this way one could combine
different cover photo's into pairs, although never the same ones. Beautiful
piece and almost impossible to find.
