'More information to gather at the opening'

De titel van de tentoonstelling 'more information to gather at the opening', die verwijst naar het ontbreken van informatie, is kenmerkend voor de kunstenaarshouding van Suzan Noesen. Informatie vergaren en zoveel mogelijk details te weten komen is voor haar een voorwaarde om een juister beeld van de buitenwereld te kunnen ontwikkelen. Vandaar dat het onderzoeken en definiëren van ruimten in zowel haar tentoonstellingen als in haar performances steeds terug te vinden is. Zij tast de grenzen en daarmee de mogelijkheden van een ruimte af.

In de tentoonstelling 'more information to gather at the opening' staat een houtblok in elke hoek van de ruimte en een houtblok in het midden. Tijdens de opening voltrok zich daarbinnen de performance 'Entschluss' (2011). Een jonge vrouw hield een jongleurbal in elke hand en suggereerde met op en neer gaande handbewegingen dat zij daarmee wilde gooien. In werkelijkheid zakte zij langzaam door de knieën en strekte zich traag uit over de vloer. Na weer langzaam opgestaan te zijn herhaalde zij deze handeling. Zo werd tijdens de performance van ongeveer twee uur de hele vloer met haar lichaam afgetast. De tekeningen in was en potlood behelzen het afkrabben, bekrassen en oprollen van een huid of laag. Een kluwen grove wol op een polistyreen schapje lijkt te verwijzen naar een schapenvacht als beschermend omhulsel, zoals vellen papier in de tentoonstelling verwijzen naar de witte pokdalige bast van de houtblokken op de galerievloer.
Suzan Noesen is in 'more information to gather at the opening' op zoek naar gegevens die een beter begrip opleveren van de fenomenen waarin zij geinteresseerd is, namelijk de ontmoetingen die zij heeft met de installaties en haar publiek te midden van de ruimte die zij gebruikt om haar werk te tonen.

Suzan Noesen studeerde in 2010 af aan de Koninklijke Academie in Den Haag. Sinds december 2010 woont en werkt de kunstenaar Berlijn.

The title of the exhibition 'more information to gather at the opening', refers to a lack of information which may be collected somewhere else. It shows quite well the artist's attitude of Suzan Noesen. To gather information for getting details as much as possible is in her opinion a prerequisite for developing a clearer view of her outer world. Hence her searching and defining of spaces, in both her exhibitions and performances. She gropes the borders and therefore the possibilities of both architectural and mental spaces.

In the exhibition 'more information to gather at the opening' a log split by an axe is placed in each corner of the gallery space, with one log in the middle of the room. During the opening a new performance 'Entschluss' (2011) was presented by a young woman with a pair of juggler's balls suggested with up and down movements of her hand that she wanted to throw the balls. In fact she collapsed in slow motion and stretched her body out lying on the floor, while dropping the balls. Standing up right gradually she repeated the act. During the performance of two hours the floor of the space was bodily touched.
The wax and pencil drawings are about skin and layers; peeled off, scratched, rolled up. In a wall sculpture a ball of pure wool refers to the skin of a sheep and its natural warmth. It is a protecting coat similar to the sheets of paper and the peeled off bark of the birch logs in the exhibition.
Suzan Noesen is in search of data that brings her to a better knowledge of phenomena she is interested in, i.e. impulses that come towards her and have relations to human positions and objects that surround her and her works.

Suzan Noesen studied at the Royal Academy in The Hague. Since December 2010 the artist lives and works in Berlin.
