"Mr. Zheng", 2008 (film still) English text
"Mr. Zheng".
Wei Na finished art school at her hometown in Inner Mongolia, she continued her first master course in Xiamen University of Fujian province in 2004, and then she became interested in video and photography. Walking through the streets of the city that summer, she felt sorry for the many demolished houses. She felt how the lost scenes at that moment during the city development in China influenced very strongly her way of thinking and eventually her works. In the film "Mr. Zheng" an old Chinese man tells his life story in a room in Amsterdam China town. Wei Na made this film based on her experiences of communicating with different Chinese generations who live in Amsterdam. The work expresses feelings of living in a totally different world, in which a young dancing couple appears and disappears and in which past and present are intermingled. Wei Na is born in 1981 in Inner Mongolia, China. She lives and works in Amsterdam after she attended the Sandberg Insitute. In 2010 she participated in the Kunstvlaai- Art Pie in Amsterdam, the Dutch Culture Centre Dialogue, Shanghai and in 'City 1 minutes' at the World Exposition Shanghai 2010 in China. hier komt een persbericht in het Nederlands |
